The NBA All Star Weekend is here, and we are halfway through the season. It is time to give out some first half Most Improved Player, MVP and Rookie of the Year awards.
Most Improved Player of the Year
Jerami Grant has been a great player for the Detroit Pistons. After signing with the Pistons for a bigger role this summer some questioned if he could be a key contributor. He is averaging 23 points and 5 rebounds this year. He is having a career year averaging 10 more points than he did last year. Grant will be key piece to build with for the Pistons. With Grant finally getting an opportunity he is making sure to make the best of it.
Rookie of the Year
LaMelo Ball is having an excellent rookie campaign averaging 15 points 6 assist and 6 rebounds per a game. Ball has been a driving force for the Charoltte Hornets, especially since he has been inserted into the starting lineup. The Hornets are currently in playoff contention in large part of the play of Ball. Many doubted his ability to shoot the 3pt shot. He has proven them wrong and is shooting a respectable 37% from 3pt range.
Most Valuable Player (MVP)
The MVP of the league for the first half is Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers, they have the best record in the Eastern Conference. Embiid is having a career year averaging 30 points a game this season. He also recently powered the 76ers past the Utah Jazz who have the NBA’s best record. This includes Embiid dropping 40 points and 19 rebounds in the overtime victory. If Embiid continues this dominance he will run away with MVP award and become the first 76er since Allen Iverson in 2001.
